Hey guys! A week ago I asked you all to sign a petition to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s by signing a petition to create a strong National Alzheimer’s Plan that will be sent to President Obama. Today, I’d like to tell you about an event that I am producing that will raise both awareness and money for Alzheimer’s research as well as the Family Abuse Services of Alamance County. These are Sigma Kappa and Alpha Chi Omega’s philanthropies, respectively. I have been working diligently with the VP of Philanthropic Service for Alpha Chi Omega for the past couple of months to produce this event, and I’m proud to say that it is coming together excellently!
Our event is called the Swim-a-Thon and will be held at Beck Pool on Elon University’s campus on Friday, March 30th from 2-4 PM. It is open to students, faculty, and the community at large. We have created Facebook page for individuals to gather information, as well as a website to collect online donations for our philanthropies! Please take a minute to read the information and make a donation, even $5 or $10 would really help.
This is the second year that this event will be produced, and we are adding some fun new activities this year! The activities of the day will include:
- Swimming
- Aqua Walking
- Treading Water
- A picnic with sandwiches, chips, baked goods, and drinks
- A “photo-booth” where individuals can take pictures in front of an underwater-themed canvas with fun props
- A surprise activity that I will write about soon!
Although the event is still over two weeks away, we already have 182 people signed up to attend on Facebook and $300 worth of online donations! I am positive that this is going to truly be an amazing event that will benefit both of our philanthropies greatly.
