I hope you are all enjoying your Sunday and taking advantage of a day of rest! Last night I went to a North Mississippi Allstars concert in Pawtucket, RI at a venue called “The Met.” The concert was amazing, and the location was equally as impressive. Originally named, “The Met Cafe,” on their website this place is described as:
“…a versatile music room booking rock, folk, punk, blues and more. Booking agent Jack Reich comments, ‘The Met is the mid-sized room Rhode Island has been missing for some time.’”
It is available for rental for any type of function, including: parties, concerts and other functions. In November of 2010 I attended an Iration concert there and in December of 2010, I attended the Narragansett Beer 120th Anniversary Party there. It was definitely the perfect location for the party – there were five bands, a calendar signing (by the 2011 ‘Gansett Calendar Girls), drinks, dancing and speeches. The venue is truly “mid-sized,” as described on their site and it is perfect because it isn’t so small that people are endlessly on top of each other and bumping into one another – but it isn’t so huge that it seems empty when only a small crowd is in attendance. It is an ideal size to promote a laid-back, fun atmosphere that allows a special connection between the musical artists playing on the stage and the guests who come to watch and listen to them perform. Another special aspect about this venue is the decor. Once an old factory, this building has been renovated to accommodate musical performances, although remnants of the old function still remain; like the support poles throughout the dance floor, brick walls and low ceilings. Paintings on large wood panels of the greats of music (such as Janis Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix) don the walls above the two bars on either end of the room. They have also just launched a bar food menu, available for ordering at most shows! With the intimate setup and unique decor, this is the perfect spot for any kind of event.
